Prior to his recent retirement, the author worked for Shell Oil Company and Aera Energy LLC for 35 years.  For more than 20 years, he held a variety of management positions in Houston, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana and Bakersfield.  Development and engagement with teams was an important function of each of these assignments.

When Shell and Mobil (now Exxon-Mobil) merged to form Aera Energy LLC, he chose to become an organizational learning consultant.  In this capacity, he worked with individuals and teams throughout Aera to assist them in increasing their capacity to achieve the results they desired. This included development of Leadership Forums and work with senior leadership teams, project teams, innovation teams, ad hoc teams and learning circles. He currently teaches team skills workshops for International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg, France and at ISU summer sessions at locations around the world.

He grew up in Wyoming and has a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Wyoming (1966).  His training includes four years in the U.S. Navy and numerous technical and management courses through Shell Oil Company and independent educational organizations.  This includes extensive training at the Leading Learning Community in Boulder, Colorado, The Shell Learning Center, the Aera Energy learning and leadership practice and numerous outside learning centers.
