  • Adopt-A-Highway
    May 2008 Highway Cleanup Crew

On Saturday, May 31st, nineteen API members gathered for the semi-annual clean up of our stretch of Enos Lane between Stockdale and Rosedale Highways. They started the day with breakfast at the Golden Bull hosted by John Braun. Next they reviewed the CalTrans safety video and donned their PPE and headed off to do their part in API's community involvement. Because of the large turnout, the two miles of roadway was cleaned up in just an hour. Way to go! That is the way it is supposed to work. (more photos)

  • CalTrans has requested as many groups as possible join together on September 20th for highway cleanup.  If you are available to help, please contact John Braun at 633-1451 ext. 104 or via e-mail at jbraun@braunelec.com As always, John will provide breakfast at the Golden Bull (Rosedale Highway and Enos Lane) for those helping to do the cleanup.

  • API Adopt A Highway
The next highway clean up will be in October. We encourage all members to participate in this activity that demonstrates API’s community involvement. We have adopted the stretch of Enos Lane between Rosedale and Stockdale, which is much closer to town and much easier to do than our previous adventures on Taft Highway. There is breakfast before we start, drinks along the way, and opportunities for camaraderie, good times, good feelings, and prizes. Please join us in October.

  • The Second Annual API Fall Fun Shoot is coming Friday,

October 5, 2007 at the Five Dogs Shooting Range. Sign up and eat breakfast at 8:00 AM and start shooting at 9:00 AM. There will be prizes for the shooters, raffle prizes, lunch, and a special $1,000 gift certificate raffle. The event is to raise money for the API Scholarship Fund and to provide all of you shooters with a good sporting clay shoot. The field will be limited to thirty teams so that everyone can finish at the same time and enjoy the lunch, raffles, and awards together. More details and the registration entry form were sent out earlier this month in a special flyer. Get your team together and send in that entry form quickly, because this event sold out last year. You can FAX your entry form to Jim Roberts at (661) 831-6562. If you would like to become a sponsor of this event, contact Jim Roberts at (661) 805-5766.

  • The Oil Baron's Ball

Oil Baron's Ball will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Doubletree Hotel. The event co-chairs, Weldon Sons and Teri Seely promise another beautiful event and will be looking for theme ideas in the near future. So, put on your creative thinking caps and come up with a theme. The best idea will be worth a night on the town at the Petroleum Club. Theme entries need to be submitted no later than September 30, 2007. The committee is also looking for nominations for the Oil Baron and Baroness. Submit nominations and theme ideas to Weldon Sons at Weldon@imagetec.org or call him at (661) 619-5415.

  • August’s API general meeting was attended by 154 members and guests to hear Mr. Steve Grayson (Schlumberger-Ventura) discuss "Detecting natural fractures in case hole using shear wave anisotropy" during the technical session. Our guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Gene Cotton with Flying J/Big West who discussed their ongoing expansion plans for the Bakersfield Refinery on Rosedale Highway. This was one of the largest numbers of attendees for a general meeting dinner and it would be great to see this level of attendance more often.   For more information on this, and other industry focused events, visit our website at: http://www.apibakersfield.org where you will find our August newsletter and other API related information.    See you all next month!

  • Gleaners 'Oil Can Do It' Food Drive - July 16-20, 2007
Gleaners "Oil Can Do It" Food Drive Results
At our July 17 meeting, we collected $923 in cash and checks and over 270 pounds of food. This is another great example of the giving spirit and community involvement of the API. The Golden Empire Gleaners has already sent a letter to the chapter thanking us for the generous donation. The San Joaquin Valley Chapter thanks you, all of our members, for contributing to this food drive to help those less fortunate than us.

Each year the API and its members have stepped up and supported the Golden Empire Gleaners in their effort to assist those in need. It is time, once again, to honor this commitment and help those who are less fortunate within our community.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this organization, their mission is to help alleviate hunger and provide food for needy persons of all ages.
They accomplish this by collecting and distributing food and agricultural products that might otherwise go to waste. Through the help of referring agencies, the Gleaners are able to distribute food to needy children, senior citizens, families in crisis and people who are ill, disabled, homeless or Unemployed. The Gleaners have been serving our community for over twenty years and is supported by generous local businesses and individuals who share their goal of eliminating hunger in our community.
We will be telling you more about this food drive as the event nears, so watch your API newsletter for more information. We will be collecting food and/or cash donations during our July general meeting if you wish to participate in this worthwhile event. Thank you in advance for your assistance. James McClard 2007 API Chairman
